The turtle nesting season began on Galgibaga beach
with one turtle nesting site.
Sameer Bandhari a young local has been keeping a
watch, since the last five years, on the turtles
visiting this beach for nesting. He gets paid a
princely Rs 56 per day for all his night shifts and
unflinching dedication of five years.
A few days back Dinesh Bandekar, a forest guard, has
posted a new recruit Shashikant who does not know
anything about turtles. He sits in a bar before he
gets to the beach. Wonder if the RFO there will
question Bandekar's wisedom in selecting a watchman
who hardly watches.
If Dinesh Bandekar has his way, well, all I can do is
say a requiem to the riddlys.
