I read the article "Liberation Two required?" by Wendell Rodricks with great interest. No doubt by any standard, the author is a great Goan having made major personal contributions to the life, prosperity and the economy of Goa. It was also very heartening to read the many areas of progress that Goa has made since 1961. However as the author points out, much remains to be done. There were a dozen recommendations to the "powers that be". However I was a 'tad disappointed' that in the recommendations, this illustrious son did not challenge our ganv-bhavs and ganv-bhoinis to help themselves and Goa rather than 'passing on the buck' to the gorrment- be it in Panaji or in Delhi. I know it can be difficult and touchy. I have tried to challenge our Goenkars on occasions and have been faced with 'bricks and bats'.:=)) Unlike Wendell Rodricks, I do not live locally to be physically abused and economically impacted. So I will COMPLEMENT Wendell Rodricks in carrying 'the heavy load'. :=)) Perhaps some readers have read my posts on what Goans can do for themselves. In keeping with my penchant to keep e-mail post short, I have written another post on how Goans can use the 240-million Multiplex instead of lamenting that the INOX leisure complex will be a 'while elephant' after IFFI. Next week, I will also write about a program in our town called "Festival of Trees". This is a friendly competitive display of decorated Christmas trees. This event ushers in the Joyous season in our town. The decorated / lighted Christmas trees are sold after the 10 day festival. The (lot-sa) money raised is donated to the cost of non-medical care of sick children in our town. The organizer (ordinary people) is appropriately called 'Children Miracle Network'. Those who volunteer and support do so keeping in mind: "But for the grace of the Almighty, these kids (I am helping) could be my own". Regards, GL
