The Citizen's Action Group (CAG) has strongly deplored and condemned Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's high-handed and illegal action in vindictively relieving Goa's distinguished Director General of Police Mr. Amod Kanth. Challenging the Chief Minister to make public which of his written orders DGP Amod Kanth refused to obey, CAG has said that Parrikar's action against Kanth was because an upright and no-nonsense DGP Kanth refused to play to the Chief Minister's tunes. CAG has lamented that by his vindictive action Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has denied Goans of a very mature and experienced DGP Mr. Amod Kanth who with his pro-active attitude had a vision to set Goa's police administration in order. CAG has warned that Chief Minister Parrikar's dictatorial style of functioning was a matter of great concern as today there was no collective Government in Goa but virtually a one-man rule. CAG has commended DGP Kanth for not bowing down to political pulls and pressures and resisting attempts by the political bosses to reduce a senior position of Director General of Police to that of a slaved sepoy's post. CAG has expressed the hope that brave and courageous officers like Amod Kanth would act as an inspiration to the rest of the bureaucracy who should always discharge their duties as servants of the people and not saviours cum slaves of the politicians. In a democracy no Chief Minister could trample on the Independence of the police force by interfering with its day to day functioning and that the police should be allowed to function independently devoid of any manipulation or political pressures.
