RESPONSE: I witnessed this happening to a Russian too! The man was not a happy bunny and threw his cigarettes away as well in disgust. I believe that they can easily detect metal by the X-RAY equipment and that is why the lighters are spotted. I fully agree with you that carrying fireworks is an absolute hazard and there should be notices to this effect at Dabolim Airport. Unfortunately the attendees at Dabolim Airport only do what they are asked and required to do.....they do not use common sense when it comes to other matters.....this is what Goa and for that matter, what India is all about.
