Below is my example from real-life.
The rats were troubling our home. In Goa, with a tiled roof, you can't do much about it. Rat-poison unintentionally killed out cat, instead of the rats.
A branch was cut, it helped reduced the problem ... to some extent. Obviously it makes it harder for the rats to enter the home.
A wall was built. It blocked the snakes who once roamed past the garden. Now, there's nobody to eat the rats.
My friend Rahul, badly needs rats. A wildlife enthusiast he needs food for his snakes.
He did help me by buying a trap, which he says should work to catch the rats. If I catch some, he'll get a call to do the pickup.
Conclusion: Life is complex. Sometimes we need rats, sometimes we don't need them. Sometimes we need snakes too.
NB: The above post is no defence for either the BJP or Congress or UGDP or the many other politicians who talk about Goa but care only for themselves, their caste or religion or extended clan and family. It just reflects my recent experiences, and I'd like to say that it might be unfair to compare the BJP, Congress etc to snakes and rats. Unfair to the snakes and rats, that is ;-) FN
PS: I dislike the BJP not because of anything else, but because they have a 16th century mentality, and have policies which are detrimental to the vast section of India. Their anti-"minority" bias is an issue of little importance, and would have been overlookable had it resulted even marginally in policies that benefitted the "majorities".

And may I add -
You brought in the snakes, to get rid of the rats, The snakes stayed and multiplied, But the house remains as dirty as ever!
