Philip,

The Indian Navy is an important part of the nation's defence forces. They have to carry on with and within the places presently available to them. That does not mean the authorities cannot change the venues and locations of training centres etc in the near future or far away in time.

The Naval HQ was envisaged and being shifted to 'Sea Bird' from Bombay which was a center for the Navy's development from a 'Flotilla' at the time of independence to a modern naval force / organisation, it is today. Its more a question of priorities and budgeting.

Goa already has the highest density of 'military establisments' in India. Its time, we have more land and specially stategic locations available for civilian use. The neighboring states of Maharasthra and Karnataca have much more of land and locations available to the Navy as well as other military requirements. I hope the govts can provide the means for the Naval Air Wing to move out of Dabolim and soon. Thank you Philip, for a healthy discussion!

Cheers,
Nasci caldeira.
Melbourne.

<of course this is possible only when the Indian
Naval Air Wing moves from here> [Nasci Caldeira March 13]

Suggest you check out Bosco D'Mello's "Is the Navy expanding Dabolim? " of
date. If Dabolim is now going to be geared up for training of Mig 29 pilots
then your friends Alemao, Faleiro & Co have a snowball's chance in hell of
getting the Navy out of Dabolim! In fact the Air Force is also likely to
become entrenched at Dabolim. Pls tell the pols to get a move on ok?
Otherwise your fairly sensible "general airport development strategy" will
have to be put to use at Mopa in the first instance!:)
