A TRIBUTE TO POPE JOHN PAUL II

“Be Not Afraid!” - Pope John Paul II

Pope John Paul II passing away was deeply mourned
by multitudes across the globe; his funeral
ceremony was a sight to behold, as I watched it
on TV yesterday. The atmosphere appeared serene
yet fill with innate joy as many joined in
pensive prayer that day. Each moment was
movingly spectacular, with waves of spontaneous
applause by the people present at the funeral
chanting "Santo! Santo!" while some waving
banners reading "Santo Subito" — "Sainthood Now."

It was a time for reflection on the life of the
Pope who stood for basic human rights and how he
touched our lives and the world at large. It was
a day of eloquent testimony to the powerful
impact he had made on the world, touching
humanity across the globe — people of every race,
creed and color who came from all corners of the
world to pay their respects and bid farewell.
Pope John Paul’s efforts were dramatically
evident at his funeral from more than 4 million
people representing a remarkable collection of
faiths that converged for a final farewell and
burial of Pope John Paul II.

As leader of his flock, his life was a living
example leading in the footsteps of Christ,
assuring us to —“Be not afraid,” — and he strode
onto that platform with spiritual strength and
vigor even unto his dying day. In his life, John
Paul reached out across traditional lines of
religious demarcation and captivated the world;
in his death he brought a moment of reflective
unity among world leaders, — as even rivals
(leaders) were seen shaking hands and exchanging
signs of peace.

Pope John Paul II was a truly remarkable man of
our time, who has uniquely touched the hearts of
millions across the spectrum, making a
significant difference in a world full of
suffering, intolerance and oppression he spent
his life combating. The world will truly miss
him as an active engaging leader of spectacular
vision and stature. We thank God for the gift of
Pope John Paul II.

The Pope’s last words:

“I am happy. You should be too. Let us pray
together with joy” —Pope John Paul II

We are happy that Pope John Paul II has joyfully
entered our Heavenly Father’s house.

Let’s pray that the Good Lord grant him eternal
rest; may perpetual light shine upon him.

Amen.
