“Be Not Afraid!” - Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II passing away was deeply mourned by multitudes across the globe; his funeral ceremony was a sight to behold, as I watched it on TV yesterday. The atmosphere appeared serene yet fill with innate joy as many joined in pensive prayer that day. Each moment was movingly spectacular, with waves of spontaneous applause by the people present at the funeral chanting "Santo! Santo!" while some waving banners reading "Santo Subito" — "Sainthood Now." It was a time for reflection on the life of the Pope who stood for basic human rights and how he touched our lives and the world at large. It was a day of eloquent testimony to the powerful impact he had made on the world, touching humanity across the globe — people of every race, creed and color who came from all corners of the world to pay their respects and bid farewell. Pope John Paul’s efforts were dramatically evident at his funeral from more than 4 million people representing a remarkable collection of faiths that converged for a final farewell and burial of Pope John Paul II. As leader of his flock, his life was a living example leading in the footsteps of Christ, assuring us to —“Be not afraid,” — and he strode onto that platform with spiritual strength and vigor even unto his dying day. In his life, John Paul reached out across traditional lines of religious demarcation and captivated the world; in his death he brought a moment of reflective unity among world leaders, — as even rivals (leaders) were seen shaking hands and exchanging signs of peace. Pope John Paul II was a truly remarkable man of our time, who has uniquely touched the hearts of millions across the spectrum, making a significant difference in a world full of suffering, intolerance and oppression he spent his life combating. The world will truly miss him as an active engaging leader of spectacular vision and stature. We thank God for the gift of Pope John Paul II. The Pope’s last words: “I am happy. You should be too.
