Your description brought back fond memories.  I longed to eat some of the 
fruit when I visited Goa in November last, but it was not the season I guess.  
When I was very young we used to wash the fruit and sprinkle it with a bit of 
salt, then eat it.
 
Whilst on the subject of ŽjambulaoŽas we called it, does anyone know about the 
fruit 'jagoma' - sorry I can't remember what it was called in Konkani.  The 
fruit was greenish-red on the outside and we used to eat it after softening it 
in the palm of our hand.
