BJP alleges model code violation in Goa

Statesman news Service

NEW DELHI, May 31. --The BJP today alleged rampant violation of the model code of conduct in the elections to five Assembly segments in Goa that would decide the fate of the BJP in government formation.

BJP vice president Mr Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, in his complaint to Chief Election Commissioner, said Congress workers are misusing official machinery and distributing money and liquor to voters. Mr Naqvi demanded stringent action against the violators and claimed that his party workers had caught Congress workers red-handed while distributing money and liquor at several places yesterday.

The BJP demanded that special observers be sent to these Assembly segments where elections are due on 2 June to keep a check on the misuse of the official machinery and money and muscle power.

Goa is currently under President's rule after five BJP legislators resigned from the party and joined the Congress. As a result, both the BJP as well as the Congress has 17 legislators each in the House of 40. Both BJP and Congress are making all-out efforts to win the seats.
