CHENNAI: Accusing BJP president L K Advani of having "betrayed" the Hindus, VHP working president Ashok Singhal on Thursday demanded a public apology from him for describing the December 6, 1992 Ayodhya incident as the "saddest" day of his life. "He (Advani) should publicly apologise. He has betrayed the Hindus of our country. Regretting now, particularly from Pakistani soil, is an insult to 90 crore Hindus," Singhal told reporters here. Alleging that Pakistan was behind the jehadi movements in various parts of the country and for the Kargil war, he said Advani's statement, that too from Pakistani soil when he had himself accused Pakistan of waging proxy war in India, "is most shameful". On friendship with Pakistan, Singhal countered "friendship for what? To enhance jehadi movement?." He claimed 43 per cent of districts in India were facing the problem of terrorism. "Who is teaching them, (terrorists) who is providing training to them," he asked. Referring to the "desaffronisation" of history lessons from schools by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh, he claimed that despite strong historical evidence, the students were now being taught "obsolete" theories like Aryans invaded India.
