We all know that Abbe Faria was a Goan. We also all know the majestic
splendor and significance of the Sistine Chapel. What we may not all know
is that Abbe Faria was invited by Pope Pius VI to preach in the Sistine
Chapel. The sermon on the Advent of the Holy Spirit was delivered in
Latin, in the presence of His Holiness, Pius VI.
Fr. Ivo da C. Souza who has studied Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic and
Sanskrit, and who is also fluent in English, Kokanni and Portuguese, was
at the request of Luis S.R. Vas gracious in undertaking the task to
translate Abbe Farias sermon. His eloquent translation can be accessed
