Sir, Herewith please find the Party's Statement on "Increase in Pension of MLAs" for kind favour of Publication. Thanking you,. Yours Sincerely, for Goa Su-Raj Party. Sd/- (Floriano C. Lobo) Spokesperson. ** With reference to the Bill passed by the Goa Legislative Assembly to effect increase in the pension of MLAs, which is awaiting the green signal from the Governor, the Goa Su-Raj Party is of the opinion that status quo be maintained in this regard. It is highly improper for the legislators to increase their own remuneration. This decision should be taken by an independent commission comprising of experts and not MLAs themselves as suggested by Lok Sabha Speaker Mr. Somnath Chaterjee, to the demand for restructuring the salary and allowances of Members of Parliament. Earlier, when it was reported in the section of the press that Goa's ex-MLAs and ex-MPs urge Government to extend more facilities unto them, this through ex-MLA Mr. Herculano Dourado (GT- Jan 10, 2005), Goa Su-Raj Party had objected to this very strongly, specially when Mr. Dourado preferred to go on record to say that the MLAs and MP had 'worn themselves out' for the service of the people. The members of the public very well know how much their MLAs and MPs 'wear themselves out' in their (people's) service. This is well documented by the display of garbage anywhere and everywhere except where it should really be and a horde of other inadequate facilities pointed out daily in the newspapers whereby the general public is totally inconvenienced.
