Valmiki, Since you digressed without meaning to, my opinion is that these pets are considered playthings for their owners. I am not a pet owner any more, and when I had pets I never had them sterilized. We have a famous Canadian vet on Goanet who is probably deeply involved in implementing the "cruelty" that you see. Maybe the vet and other pet owners can explain the issues involved in having pets castrated/sterilized.
