Goa: BJP leaders, MLAs chargesheeted for attack on Governor

Panaji, Oct 15. (PTI): Two BJP MLAs, including the state unit
president, as well as several party office bearers were on Friday
chargesheeted in a case relating to an attack on Goa Governor, S C
Jamir, during February's political crisis in the state.

Mandrem MLA Laximikant Parsekar, who is also the party spokesperson,
and party state unit president Rajendra Arlekar have been
chargesheeted by Panaji police in the case relating to the attack on
Governor's carcade during a BJP dharna at Raj Bhavan, police sources
said here.

The chargesheet was filed in the court of First Class Judicial
Magistrate, Panjim.

Arlekar, whose status as an MLA is already under scanner after the
Panaji bench of the Bombay High Court upheld an election petition
against him in May, is one of the several people chargesheeted.

Among the others are state BJP general secretary, Satish Dhond, and
vice-president, Govind Parvatkar.

The attack on the carcade took place on March 4, hours after the
Pratapsinh Rane government had won a vote of confidence in the
assembly.

BJP workers and MLAs had then rushed to Raj Bhavan and staged a sit-in there.

The chargesheet mentions destruction of public property and rioting as
charges, the sources said.
