Hi Samir

I do not think the sub-plots and side-plots of Kannada script or the Konkani 
spoken/written in
Kerala for example should detract from two central issues:

1. Konkani could be a dying language and I agree with you that all dialects and 
scripts should be
encouraged to preserve the language.
2. Romi script is a significant, historical feature of the language.  For a 
very large part of the
population, it is part of their cultural, linguistic, social, historical 
identity. It defines who
they are. Even software engineers use several languages (scripts), there is 
diversity without
chaos. This could work in Goa too.

In the interests of standardization (for whom ?!!), we should not treat Romi 
script as
step-children were once treated (poorly).  It should have a natural, central 
place in the
language.  I don't know anyone who cares about the 1,000/- rupee grants, the 
real issue is that
Romi script proponents have been disenfranchised since 1987.
