Dubai, Nov 12: Karnataka Sangha. Dubai which was recently bestowed with
the 'Karnataka Rajyotsava' award by the sate government organized a day-long
Rajyotsva celebration in Al Nasr Leisurland, Dubai.

As announced earlier, the highlight of the programme was the participation of
Sandalwood (Kannada Movie) stars to add a touch of glamour, with state
minister Basavaraj Horatti representing Karnataka state at the event.

Ranjani Suresh and Hema Chandra, two charming and experienced comperes with
pleasing voices, took charge of the event with their excellent command over
Kannada language. Both of them have been involved in several Kannada-related
activities in Dubai, as also radio presentations.

'Nadu Beedi Narayana', a play staged by Master Hirannaiah, was a high-quality
drama with pithy and powerful dialogues. But as it happens most of the time,
the sound system let the audience down. Any shortfall in the sound system is
beyond the control of the artiste, yet the audience greeted Master Hirannaiah
and his tream with a huge applause for their efforts.

The prime entertainment was the performance by Kannada stars Shivaraj Kumar,
Jayanti, Anu Prabhakar and Doddanna. They exhibited their dance, songs,
mimicry and jokes to entertain the crowd. Indeed their presence
brought true glamour to the show.

Tableaux from various communities were the other main attraction. Konkani
community presented the Christian wedding tableau. Other communities also
presented their traditions.

B R Shetty was the guest of honour along with the minister. Karnataka Sangha-
Dubai president C R Shetty and secretary John Monteiro were present on the
dais during the felicitation ceremony.

About 1,600 Kannadigas, hailing from different parts of the state, were
present at the event, which commenced around 3.00pm and lasted until about
10.45 pm.

Minister Basavaraj Horatti unveiled the memento received by Karanataka Sangha
as part of the Rajyotsava award. He congratulated the Sangha on their
contribution to the Kannada language and community.
