Two Goan visiting Priests in Kuwait.
Fr. Jerry Fernandes from Guirim and Fr. Domnick Alvares from Sangolda are
currently visiting Kuwait. They belong to the Society of Pilar - Goa. They
are in Kuwait on the invitation of Tony Correia. All three of them once
were close colleaues and friends at Monte de Guirim School. Tony Correia is
a member of Goan Overseas Association and former president of Kuwait Indian
Foot-ball Federation working for National Bank of Kuwait. In Goa, he is
from Nagoa, Arpora, Bardez. Tony Corriea yesterday celebrated his wedding
anniversary in Kuwait and to mark this occasion he invited both his priest
friends to Kuwait.
Fr. Jerry Fernandes is currently doing missionary work in Megalaya in North
India amongst the tribal people in a very difficult situation. Society of
Pilar has recently established Megalaya as one of the latest missionary
spots where Fr. Fernandes is doing his work. Fr. Domnick Alvares is
currently director of Pre-Novices and Professor of Scriptures at Pilar
Seminary in Goa. They are both first time visiting a country outside India
and they will be in Kuwait as guests of Tony Correia till 18th of this
month. Fr. Alvares is the brother of Tiatrist Rosy Alvares and he sings
also very well. Having all the facial features of his sister, Fr. Alvares
resembles in his voice exactly like his well known sister and this was
noticed today, Friday at Pearl Marzouk Ball Room during the social organised
by Goan Overseas Association. Along with Fr. Jerry Fernandes, Fr. Domnick
Alvares rendered a beautiful Mando with Dulpods and both of them entertained
the gathering very sweetly though for a short period. While singing they
both played their musical instrumwents too, Fr. Alvares Guitar while Fr.
Fernandes Organ. They are both musicians as well as very good singers.
Besides and most of all they are great promoters of Konkani language.
While welcoming them to Kuwait during their stay in Kuwait, I wish them all
the best.
