The Indian Catholic is apparently the news-site of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India. Reading it, I was a bit surprised to see a Google-adsense advert on the page, which refers visitors to a site offering: Free Instant Ordination www.SpiritualHumanism.org Be a legally ordained clergy person Perform weddings, baptisms, etc.Free Instant Ordination It talks of "spiritual humanism" and says: "If you agree that Religion must be based on Reason, you can be ordained right now for free, and be still able to practice your own religious traditions by simply clicking the button below..." It says, "observing holidays is a tradition intertwined with spirituality" and talks about paganism and the like. Which made me wonder: was the CBCI aware, or does it have any control, about the ads being put on its page by Google adsense? If so, does it necessarily approve of them? Or does it just see this as earning a few cents (while promoting something which doesn't quite fit in its worldview). FN PS: It's possible that I'm wrong about this being the "news site" of the CBCI, but that's what it says. PPS: On a similar issue, religious magazines like The Examiner in Mumbai have played a major role -- even if unwittingly -- in helping Goans to destroy Goa (i.e. by building and selling and speculating in ugly and huge, unsustainable building blocks of giant concrete along the once-scenic coast). Don't religious organisations also have some kind of ethical duty in terms of what they promote? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * G * O * A * N * E * T *** C * L * A * S * S * I * F * I * E * D * S * ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Spread the Christmas cheer - even when you're not here!
