Mangalore, Dec 24: Konkani writer and activist Paul Moras has been
unanimously elected president of All India Konkani Parishad for 2006 –
08. Moras succeeds Basti Vaman Shenoy, the serving president during
the 25th session of Parishad planned at Panaji, Goa, from February 10
to 12.
From 1989 to 1992, Moras was the president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal,
an association which played a significant role in conducting the
'Konkani Jatha' for inclusion of Konkani in the Eighth Schedule of the
Indian constitution. The association was also responsible for the
formation of the Konkani Sahitya Academy in the state.
Moras's book 'Konkani Challvall' had won the T M A Pai Foundation
award for the best Konkani book for 2003.
Hailing from Bantwal taluk, Moras is an arts graduate and post
graduate diploma holder in Konkani language from St Aloysius College.
