o Goanetters in Goa: do drop in at an Goanetters meet on
Dec 27, 2005 at 4 pm at the Riviera, opposite Hotel
Mandovi (near Ferry Jetty) Panjim. This is one of
the series of traditional Goanetter meet-ups in Goa.

o Churchill Alemao's changing story: After being bitten
by a sting operation, undertaken by (among others)
  earlier-in-Goa journalist Mayabhushan Nagvenkar, the
South Goa MP came out with a number of explanations.
Navhind cites Alemao saying this was a case of
  extortion.

o Alemao said the motive of the TV channel was to "make
a profit", and he would not spare anyone "tarnishing
my image and that of the Congress". He claimed he too
had a cassette which would expose "certain people".
He admitted he called the UPA government a "Laloo-
Baloo" one, but denied calling Goans rascals. He said
he had "given his life for Konkani" and that was why he
agreed to the library proposal, not for kickbacks.
He also said he had become a vicitm of a campaign by
the right and powerful to malign him and reduce his
appeal among the poor and downtrodden. (Herald)

QUOTE... UNQUOTE: I called the scheme a rascal.
Maybe there was problem with my English as I am
Portuguese educated. -- Churchill Alemao, denying
          he had called Goans rascals.

TV channels are now pretending to be arbiters of
public morality and are misusing technology either
to gain viewers or blackmail public figures. --
Churchill Alemao, victim of a sting operation
telecast on STAR, quoted in Gomantak Times.

Gomantak Times apologises for a headline above
a Churchill Alemao story which read, "Smuggler,
Robinhood, Muscleman, Bribe-taker". The paper said
Alemao had not expressed his protest to them in,
but it was an "inadvertent mistake". "Our editorial
stand on the issue of he asking for kickbacks
remains unchanged...," said the paper. Navhind
          meanwhile reported Churchill's statement warning
"he would shortly file a defamation suit against a
local newspaper for bringing out wrong facts and
using derogatory terms of reference towards him".

Here is another delicious Christmas cookie that

Finally add semonlina and knead really well.
Divide the dough into 30 portions. Round each
portion beween your hands and flatten slightly or
put in a thumbprint. Place on a non-greased pan

          From Wilma D'John <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Dear
Daisy, Would appreciate if you could publish this
recipe on the Goanet thru your column. It's a very
easy and quick recipe. I have tried it and it
          tastes very good.

EASY NO COOKING MILK TOFFEE

Ingredients:

100 grms broken cashewnuts - grated and then ground fine in a mixer
200 gms icing sugar
50 gms powdered milk
50 gms marie biscuits crushed and ground in a mixer
1/2 tsp. vanilla essence
colouring optional
1 tin condensed milk

Put all ingredients in a big plate together except condensed
milk, now add a little of the condensed milk and mix well
till it forms a soft dough. Pls. do not add too much
condensed milk otherwise it will turn sticky so be very
careful in adding the condensed milk. Then roll it out on a
platter flat and cut into shapes, diamonds or squares and
keep either in the fridge or outside in containers. May you
enjoy the preparation. -- Wilma D'John, Kuwait
