SDM ends Raia temple trouble BY HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, JAN 24 — Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Margao Suresh Pilarnekar on Tuesday nipped in the bud a simmering trouble in Raia over attempts to control the affairs of a temple. The SDM this evening issued an order to the Maina Curtorim police to take all preventive action to maintain peace even to the extent of using force and lathi charge to control any law and order problem. In his order, the SDM ordered the group represented by Kantu Arjun Naik to return the keys of the temple to the pujari by 5.30 pm today and restore the status quo as it existed before the keys were taken from the pujari. Further, both the parties were directed to maintain status quo in the temple affairs until the matter was resolved either through the Civil court or mutual consent of the two parties. The SDM's intervention came after the Maina Curtorim police sought magisterial arrangements in Raia anticipating a law and order problem.
