Placed fourth in the league table, formidable Sporting club de Goa will lock horns with former champions Salgaocar Sports Club in the ONGC Cup 10th National Football League Championship match here at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda tomorrow. The match is likely to be a keenly contested affair as both the teams need to win. Sporting would be looking to maintain their unbeaten record and on the other hand, Salgaocar is badly in need of points to improve their position. Sporting coach Clifford Chukuwuma said ace Nigerian striker Edeh Chidi will not be in the team as he has been booked with two yellow cards. Either Adebayo Adewesi or Nichols Borges will assist Dudu Omagbhemi in the forward line, he said. "Salgaocar is a strong team but we will go all out for full points." Sporting have six points from four outings - a win and three draws, while Salgoacar are on four points - one win, a draw and a defeat. Salgaocar will heave a sigh of relief as their defenders will not have to face Sporting's strong Nigerian Chidi. Salgaocar coach Savio Madeira said, "Our dependable midfielder Micky Fernandes will have to sit out on the benches as he was booked with red card in the last match against Mohamadan Sporting at Kolkata." He said his main concern was that the forwards had been failing to capitalise on chances. Mr Madeira said Sporting is a strong team with potent strike force but "we will try our best to overpower them with dependable forwards Bruno Oliveiro, Aseem and Samson Singh. In the middle, Fabio Passos, Rocus Lamare, Jyothi Kumar will have to do a lot of running and feed forwards with accurate passes. Their defence will be manned by Agnelo Colaco and Robert Fernandes. The Sporting also have a solid defence in Vincent Pires, Suresh David and Rajesh Meetei, and their half-line will manned by Nicholas Rodrigues and Bibian Fernandes.(UNI)
