Mohun Bagan hold Salgaocar 1-1 Sify.com Monday, 06 February, 2006, 12:06 Margao (UNI): A goal by substitute Dependu Biswas in the second half enabled former champions Mohun Bagan to hold Salgaocar Sports Club to 1-1 draw and share points in the ONGC Cup 10th National Football League championship match being played at Nehru stadium Fatorda. Agnelo Colaco scored for Salgaocar in the 14th minute, while Biswas hit the equaliser in the 81st minute. With today's draw, both the teams had their tally increase by five points each. Though Salgaocar were leading by a goal at the breather, the play was marred by rough play in the major part of the first session in which Bagan's defender Dulal Biwas and Mehatab Hussain and Salgaocar's Mickey Fernandes were booked with yellow cards for rough play. Earlier, Salgaocar came with good move as early as in the 6th minute from the start with Manitombi Singh, whose long range effort was well saved by Mohun Bagan's goalkeeper Imran Khan. Mohun Bagan, too, had a chance to score in the 11th minute but Awwudu Ebrahim's long shot missed the mark by a whisker.
Salgaocar were leading till the 13th minute of the first half when Fernandes, after collecting a pass from Rocus Lamare, unleashed a power-packed 35 yarder shot, which hit the hand of Khan and crushed into the frame work and went for an abortive corner. In the next minute, Salgaocar shot into the lead through Agnelo Colaco whose close range header gave no chance to rival goalkeeper. It was a cross pass from Jerose Oliveira 1-0. Stung by the early debacle, the play was marred by rough play by both the teams for the rest part of the first half. Trailing by a goal at the breather, Bagan made some desperate attempts to win the match and succeeded in restoring parity in the 81st minute through Biswas, who headed a free kick pass by Coffi 1-1. Bagan defender Eduwardo Chacon, who had earlier received a yellow card, was again booked with another yellow card in the first minute of the injury time in the second half and was given a marching order by refree S Suresh. Salgaocar would have won the game outright had not their substitute striker Ashim Bisws efforts in the dying minute missed the target by inches. Salgaocar's defender Robert Fernanades was adjudged the man of the match.
