29 illegal cylinders seized from 3 commercial premises NT Staff Reporter Panaji Feb 10: The civil supplies department raided three commercial premises in Vagator, Moira and Mapusa dealing in Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinders and seized 29 illegal cylinders.
The sources in the department stated that there were 20 cylinders of Hindustan Petroleum while nine were of Bharat Petroleum. Top officials in the department informed that the commercial establishments should immediately stop using domestic LPG cylinders as they were highly subsidised and their use had created artificial shortage in the market and domestic consumers suffer miserably. Sources also informed that the department officials has received information about commercial establishments providing LPG cylinders to vehicle owners to be used as fuel when it was meant exclusively for domestic use. The department has sought assistance from the Directorate of Transport in this regard and urged the concerned officers to book cases against those misusing the LPG cylinders. The raids on commercial establishments were conducted by the assistant director of civil supplies, Ms Siddhi Halankar under the supervision of the director of the civil supplies department, Mr Ashok Dessai.
