12/2/2006 Union Minister for Tourism Govt of India New Delhi Regional Director India Tourism Govt of India Mumbai
Deputy Director India Tourism Communidade Bldg Near Imaculate Conception Church Panaji Goa Deputy Chief Minister of Goa Secretariat Panaji Goa Director Department of Tourism Govt of Goa Panaji Goa Madam/Sir SUB 6TH REGIONAL GUIDE TRAINING COURSE You are aware that advertisement for the above course was published on the local English daily The Navhind Time dated 16.12.2005 In the said advertisement there was no mention of the other qualifications required other than graduation as indicated in the Application form at serial a ) three year degree holder in Tourism/Hospitality from a recognised Univ/Institute OR Dip in Archaeology This to our mind has eliminated a lot of prospective candidates who may have preferred to apply. This matter was raised by our NGO with the Deputy Director India Tourism at Panaji and he agreed to have the advertisement re-corrected and re-inserted. The matter was also brought to the notice of the Director of Tourism /the Secretary Tourism Government of Goa and they too agreed to have the matter attended to and disposed of favourably. Our letters dated 20/1/2006 on the subject addressed to ex Union Minister for Tourism Ms Renuka Chowdhury refers. It is now seen that instead of re-inserting the said advertisement the list of thirty five candidates have been shortlisted for the entrance test. Of these there are three non graduates, also included. This is a clear violation and further aggravating the situation. We,at South Goa Public Interest Action Group (SGPIAG) a registered NGO based in Margao,Salcete, South Goa District ,with jurisdiction, at present, over the entire South Goa Parliamentary Constituency therefore request your kind intervention in the matter to ensure that the entire process is withdrawn and freshly initiated. Meanwhile there is also a demand that training for STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL GUIDES SHOULD ALSO BE HELD SIMULTANEOUSLY AS the last such training course was helde in 1984 by the Department of Tourism Government of Goa. This will also benefit a large number of locals from Goa and weed out the unscrupulous elements that have been doing harm to the hospitality industry. It may please be noted that the Goa Tourist Trade Act 1982 which necessitates registration of service providers is followed more in violation than as a rule. Thanking you in anticipation of a favourable reply For SOUTH GOA PUBLIC INTEREST ACTION GROUP Regd No 171/GOA/2000 dt 12.12.2000 sd/- TERENCE MAZARELO PRESIDENT (SGPIAG) 1st Flr Benlix Bldg Opp Fatima Convent Margao Goa India [EMAIL PROTECTED] weblink http://mumbai.sancharnet.in/manojnd FAX +91 832 2712430 HELPLINE (24 hrs) 9822158584 Tel +91 832 2731373 (O) __________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
