Commuters left stranded BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, FEB 14 - Commuters had to bear the brunt of the BJP morcha on Tuesday when vehicular traffic on both the Mandovi bridges was brought to a grinding halt at 4 pm, a little before the rally could converge at the place. Incoming traffic entering the city was brought to a standstill by BJP morcha which began at 3.15 pm from Azad Maidan on Tuesday. Vehicles were lined up from Hotel Mandovi to the KTC Circle. People were stranded in their cars for nearly 20 minutes in the intense heat. People travelling towards Porvorim and onwards had to wait till 5.10 pm when the Old Mandovi Bridge was finally opened for the traffic. Even after the bridge opened, the traffic moved at a snail's pace. And the New Mandovi Bridge was opened only after 6 pm when the rally was finally declared over. Traffic on the National Highway-17 was brought to a halt on the Porvorim side, forcing people to cross over to Panjim on foot. An agitated student said, "Rallies and morchas are fine, but then why should the common man suffer for the inability of a few men to govern the State. This is ridiculous." -- Peace be with you!
