Take charge of 71 primary school premises, Govt told BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, FEB 19 - The North Goa District Congress Committee has strongly demanded with the State Government to withdraw all the 71 Government Primary Schools premises handed over by Parrikar Government three years ago to some Sangh Parivar organizations. NGDCC president Gurudas Gawas said that the organizations affiliated to the RSS have not increased the student strength and instead the enrollment has gone down in most of the schools. While handing the school premises to the Sangh Parivar organizations, then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who was also the Education Minister had said that the organizations would increase the enrollment and keep the schools afloat, Gawas reminded. He said some schools were surprisingly given to Mahila mandals (women's organizations) linked to the RSS when then Government had said defending its decision said that the school premises were being given to educational organizations. Gawas also said the Government should recover a rent from the organizations. In its attempt to saffronise education at the primary school level, Gawas alleged the BJP government had given the school premises for almost free. They had to pay only one rupee as monthly rent to the Government, he said adding that the PWD should have fixed the rent as the school buildings are maintained by the PWD. Gawas demanded that the Government should take back the school premises from the organizations and also recover rent after assessment by the PWD. -- Peace be with you! Ani borem mog khor!
