Sailor accused of abducting his former girlfriend NT News Service Margao, Feb 25: A sailor has been accused of abducting and assaulting his former girlfriend in Goa, even while he (the alleged accused) was working aboard a ship in the United States, according to South Goa MP, Mr Churchill Alemao. Mr Alemao, who happens to be a neighbour of the accused, revealed that one lady from Mandur lodged a complaint at the Agassaim police station on February 8 alleging that the accused had abducted her in his Hyundai Accent bearing registration number GA-02-U-3620 and later assaulted her. "The complaint was registered five days after the reported incident," Mr Alemao said. Stating that there was a break down in the law and order system, the MP accompanied by the accused produced a passport and visa during the press conference to prove that the person was indeed abroad and had returned to Goa just today. On the victim's allegation of being injected with some drug, Mr Alemao said, "when it is clear that the accused was not present in India, then there was no doubt that the whole story was concocted and baseless." He sought action against the concerned police inspector. The accused present at the press conference revealed that he was working aboard a ship in the US and that the victim and he had spilt much before he left the country. He was also aggrieved at the manner in which the police attached his car at 3 a.m., causing immense problems to his ailing mother. The Agassaim PI, Mr Salim Shaikh when contacted told The Navhind Times that the police were still investigating into the case. "Based on the complaint lodged, we had to attach the car as it finds a mention in the FIR," Mr Shaikh said. He revealed that the accused had called him after the incident and informed of his being in the US. "However pending verification and the investigation in progress, I told him to present himself before the embassy wherever he was," Mr Shaikh informed, adding that if the alleged accused is found to be falsely implicated, then there was no reason for worry. -- TUMCHER AXIRVAD ASSUM; DEV BOREM KORUM.
