GOAN TEAM SHINES IN EXPAT SOCCER  TOURNAMENT.

BENQ.SIEMENS sponsored Goan Overseas Association (G.O.A), India, one of the top Indian soccer teams in Kuwait since its formation in 1980 easily outplayed their rival M.E.S.C. Nepal by scoring 5 – 1 goals. One of the two representatives of India in the tournament for South East Asian Countries organized by Mount Everest Sporting Club Katmandu – Kuwait, BENQ.SIEMENS sponsored G.O.A. with the long tradition of attractive soccer played a methodical game in which defender and skipper Ian played a stellar role in the defense line while midfield was ably orchestrated by Alleluia and Agnelo Miranda. In their forward line Dave showed his cleverness in making the ball move in all directions. The first goal was scored in the 10th minute by Alleluia who receiving a pass from his colleague Miranda, released a powerful right footer that totally baffled Shresta under Nepal’s bar. Within few minutes Kistu receiving the ball from Deve in the midfield sprinted with the ball and beautifully placed it into the net. Thereafter Nepal exerted heavy pressure on G.O.A. and displayed an attractive brand of soccer till they reduced the margin in 25th minute of this half. Increasing the pace of the game Nepal brought heavy pressure on G.O.A. defense and succeeded in reducing the margin when their forward Naresh Rajbangshi scored their only goal. During the second half the entire proceedings of the game were controlled beautifully by G.O.A. The third goal of the winners was scored by Elvis who receiving a beautiful pass by veteran Julio Cardoso who had an unique distinction of still playing in good form as substitute, since the time of inception of competitive soccer by Indians at Sour Ground, released a power packed right footer that totally blinded Nepali goalie. Thereafter in 30th minute of this session, G.O.A. again increased the tally to 4-1 thru the boots of Elvis again. Thereafter it was a drab affair since G.O.A. were all over the area of Nepal who totally surrendered till the winners scored the fifth and final goal of the match thru Alleluia.

After the start of this match, due to some emergency situation, one of the linesman suddenly left for home. It was in 7th minute of the match. Seeing the precarious situation for the organizers, Julio Cardoso as usual volunteered to assist to substitute himself for the official linesman thus bringing the situation under control. As a matter of fact, on the inaugural day the entire proceedings were beautifully compeered with his mellifluent tongue by Julio Cardoso.

In the second match between K.L.U.S Sri Lanka and S.R.S.C. Nepal, inspite of playing an aggressive soccer there was no winner since both the teams scored a goal each. Both the teams scored their goal in the second half, Nepal thru their forward Tanka Raut while a minute before final blow brought in a nice equalizer thru Mohideen which was a beautiful solo effort.

Both the matches were refereed by Kuwaiti umpires namely Ali Hussain, Bader Nazaal Al Sameri, Mohamad Ahmad and Abdallaji Abdallah Al – Amir.

Next Friday Fixtures: G.O.A. India v/s S.Y.C. Sri Lanka at 1.00 p.m. followed by
                               K.G.A. India V/s K.L.U.S. Sri Lanka.
