If people with HIV/AIDS are not treated decently by society it can deter others from having HIV tests and undiagnosed cases do nothing to help prevention. E.g. mother to child transmission is often preventable with correct drug teatment and management of the birth and infant feeding. Of course it's better not to contract the virus in the first place - education is very important, but once someone has it that is the situation that has to be dealt with, not "what if?"
