Hi Bernardo,

Thanks for enlightening us on why you thought the clip was obnoxious. Yes,
veterinary medicine does entail some highly disgusting procedures
(neutering is a polite way of referring to the barbaric practice of
physically castrating virile males - a necessary evil for pets and domestic
animals ;-)

I remember my surprise (and disgusted) at being told, at my interview with
the Dept. of Veterinary Services and Animal Husbandry in Panjim prior to
being accepted at the Bombay Veterinary College, that as part of my
training, I would have to manually rake out dung from a cow's (or for that
matter, buffalo's) rectum to make place for my arm... up to my shoulder!
That is an essential part of checking the reproductive status of the female
bovine.

Obviously not for the uninitiated but eye-opening for the public (and the
cow ;-)!

Gooday Dr. de Saligao,

Contacto Goa is a cultural program. Since the first episode displayed on
RTPi and with the exception of bharat political correctness (like they say
here in india blah, blah) the CG series has shown a lot of Goan talent in
the cultural front.

Now suddenly in the current epsiode (first of the three parts in the
program) they show a vet sticking his hand 1 meter deep in a cow's bum, and
more bum sticking with thermo is not very cultural. IM HO it is OK for this
kind of 'shots' to be shown on an animal program or vet education.

BTW who am I? Only my opinion! I am not against vets!

I think it is a Portuguese series on Goa. Maybe Ross or Bernardo can
enlighten us. It was posted on GoaNet.

Kevin
ps. Bernardo, I will forward your reply to this list of Goan veterinarians.
