We,at South Goa Public Interest Action Group (SGPIAG)
a registered NGO based in Margao,Salcete, South Goa
District ,with jurisdiction, at present, over the
entire South Goa District wish to congratulate all
students who will have successfully passed their SSC
and XII standard examinations results of which will be
declared in a day or two and to those unsuccessful
there is always yet another opportunity to make yet
another attempt.

We at SGPIAG would however wish to caution students
who are pursuing further studies to ascertain for
themselves
a) the genuinity of the educational technical
professional Institutions operating in the State
b) the validity of the courses and their contents AND
c) the course fee charged.

For the information of students

INSTITUTIONS which are recognised by

a) the University Grants Commission (UGC)
b) the All India Council for Technical Education
(AICTE)
c) the Councils created by a statute to govern the
various professions viz; Architecture, Medicine, Law
etc etc
d) other such bodies either recognised by the State or
Central Government as Institutions authorised to
impart studies;
alone are the ones students should vie for.

Kindly note that a mere mention in the prospectus
"Recognised by the Government " means merely
registration of the Institution as a Society under the
Registration of Societies Act 1860 which does not in
itself imply that the Institution and its Courses are
recognised by the State, Education, Higher Education
or Technical Education, Departments or under similar
offices of the Central Government for purposes of
employment.

Therefore only if the courses help one to get gainful
employment in State or Central Government undertaking
only such courses to be pursued.

Recently we at SGPIAG uncovered one such institution
M/S FRANKFINN who were claiming to have their courses
recognised by IATA and were using the IATA LOGO . They
were served a legal notice by IATA Geneva to cease and
desist from such misuse, which they did but not after
having apparently taken several youth for a ride.
There could be many others fly by night operators.

The Government of Goa has clearly admitted to us at
SGPIAG that there is NO LEGISLATION AS OF NOW to
prevent such institutions from functioning in the
State; hence students continue to fleeced by such
Institutions. The officials of Ministry of Tourism
Government of India has also clarified that the
Hospitality courses of M/s Frankfinn are NOT
recognised for recruitment in State or Central
Government bodies. Having recognition with
institutions outside the country has no relevant for
employment prospects in STATE OR GOVERNMENT.

We at SGPIAG also request the Governor of Goa to
impress upon Govt of Goa to come out with a suitable
legislation to check such unscrupulous institutions,
and as an assistance to the student community they
should advertise prominently all the Institution which
have Central and State Government recognition in the
State. Alternatively they could set up a HELPDESK to
assist the students or post the information on the
GOVERNMENT WEBSITES.

On our part we have provided a dedicated HELPLINE
9822158584 (24 hrs ) to assist students desirous of
help in matter which is given free of cost.
