Gabe,
Pardon me if I got this wrong but did you on Goanet, several weeks ago, refer to a shop called 5th of October in Margao which sold Portuguese wines in the 1950s? Well, as a youngster, I did know that shop.

I think it was call Cinq de Otubro (in my poor Portuguese) but I clearly recall that, the 'manager' of the shop was Caetano Francisco (Rodrigues?), from Colva. I remember that he was an absolute dandy, wearing really smart linen suits despite the heat, beautiful shoes and he always had a cane and hat when going to and from the shop. I also recall him selling to my dad, supposedly the best red and white Portuguese wine in stock. This I did imbibe in at every opportunity when there were guests at home. Sadly, I can't recall whether white was better than red, as consumption on my part, was obviously done clandestinely and always in a great hurry. But I do remember very clearly, the ambience of that charming specialist shop, its exact location and the
ancient buses running past it on a dusty red road.
Cornel
