Gabe, Wayne Rooney got what he deserved. He knew he had done something he should have not done so he should have just kept quiet about it (instead of pushing C. Ronaldo). Anyway, nobody can be 100% sure that C. Ronaldo's wink meant "job done". In the same way, nobody can be 100% sure that the referee would not give Rooney a yellow or a red even without C Ronaldo's involvement.
I do not know if you heard the comments of BBC1 commentators late that evening. According to their own opinion, Rooney did warrant a red card anyway. They replayed the scene and actually magnified it so much that it was quite clear that Rooney did stamp on the Portuguese player on purpose and that is what is really despicable (especially if you consider in what area Rooney chose to stamp on!)! It is amazing that before the finals started, for weeks in a row all we could hear here in the UK was about Rooney, if he would make it for the world cup or not. As though England would not win without him. He eventually made it and recovered from his injury much for the relief of the English fans, but in all fairness, he would have made his country a better job if he had not recovered. He is still very young and immature and highly overrated. Just two days before the game he gave an interview about the importance of discipline just to do what he has done. No doubt he is the future of this nation but at the moment, he is still very immature. Anyway, there will be another chance for England in 4 years time. This is probably the last chance for Portugal and its golden generation. The man of the game was indeed Ricardo (despite FIFA did not think so). A goal keeper that defends 3 out of 4 penalties should have been honoured and acknowledged but FIFA failed to do so, unfortunately. I do believe that Portugal can beat France and reach the Final. Portugal will play with the main squad again and I am sure that will make a difference. Lets wait and see. Best wishes Paulo. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Gabe Menezes Sent: 02 July 2006 08:47 To: HELGA GOMES; Goa's premiere mailing list, estb. 1994! The wink was caught on the camera, getting your Club team mate sent off?? Despicable, yes and I am not condoning Wayne's behaviour. -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
