Hi Paulo
Many thanks for your post on the issue of rape in 1961 and 1990 and also for
the excellent references/links. I wish I could find the time to read them.

I have no doubts whatsoever that, very sadly, rape in everyday life, and
especially in wartime, takes place and is often very brutal. The evidence
can be found in the literature and on the net. It is also clear why personal
reportage is much lower than actual incidence in all societies. However,
because journalists and reporters are invariably present at most war scenes,
fairly reliable reportage now comes out reasonably quickly.

My contention re Veronica's post is simple. If one makes serious
allegations like rape, re an individual or group, then it is incumbent that,
that person provides firm evidence. If the evidence is not available, then
it is incumbent and wisest for the person not to make the unsubstantiated
allegation.

I am sure that, like the very reasonable person you are, you will agree with
me that all of us have a measure of responsibility for what we express on
the net. I also think Fred had this in mind when he independently asked the
same question I did, about evidence of rape, at the start of this
discussion.
Best regards
Cornel
