New twist to S Goa injection scare
------------------------------------------------
The "injection" scare that has gripped Salcete's countryside
over the last one month took a new twist on Tuesday with the
Cuncolim police registering an offence against an "unknown
person" for allegedly injecting a four-year old girl student at
her school premises in Cuncolim during the recess.

The police action comes following a complaint lodged by the
girl's father, Shabir Hattawali, suspecting that her child studying
in lower KG must have been injected with some chemical or
drug during her recess time.

The girl was subjected to medical examination at Hospicio hospital
on Tuesday. Her blood samples will be taken for examination on
Wednesday, even as DySP Tony Fernandes said that a "prick mark"
has been spotted on the child's buttock, raising further suspicions.
The girl will be subjected to a thorough examination on Wednesday.

In another related incident a girl student from Margao was reportedly
admitted to Hospicio this evening with similar symptoms.

Cuncolim PI Siddhant Shirodkar said that Hattawali lodged the police
complaint after her daughter complained of pain on Monday. The girl
was later referred to Hospicio by a private medical practitioner after
suspicions grew whether the girl was injected by an unknown
miscreant. So far, no complaint has come from the school given that
Tuesday was a holiday.

Incidentally, the police did not take any chances this time, given a
similar rumour that did the rounds in Cuncolim that a girl student
of another school was injected with a drug last week. "Though
nothing is established as yet, the police registered the offence in
view of rumours doing the rounds in Cuncolim", PI Shirodkar said.

The police has registered an offence for wrongful restraint, besides
an offence under section 324 of the IPC for voluntarily causing hurt
to the student by the unknown person by injecting the contents,
likely to be dangerous to her life.

Rumours that an unknown woman is moving around with an
"injection" has been doing the rounds over the last one month.
Rumours also point to incidents at Velim, Mungul and Cuncolim.
