“HONOR THY FATHER AND MOTHER”

Our elders used to say: “Those who hurt their parents will never lead a happy life.” They also used to say: “Parents’ curse comes from the bottom of their heart.” Perhaps readers will say all these things might have happened; they don't happen today. The following true incident took place in the country where I am employed and it was published in today’s daily newspaper:

“Father’s ‘Curse’ Kills Abusive Son”

An embittered father who had suffered years of abuse at the hands of his son, cursed him resulting in his immediate death. The son recently beat his father black and blue and drove off in the family car leaving the father crying and wailing. Feeling helpless, the father went to a police station to report his son and began invoking one curse after another. A few minutes later the police station received a report of a terrible car accident in which a young man had died. It soon transpired that the young man was the son who had just been cursed by his father!)

Here I remember a song titled “Kaxintlo Paim” (the leg from the coffin) by the veteran singer, Joe Rose, which is also a true story about a son’s ill-treatment to his mother and the punishment he receives when he is dead. Here are the lyrics of the song:
