"Uzvaddan Bhorlem" exposes current scenario

A tiatr is only called a tiatr when it actually
consists of 7 scenes intermixed with songs and a
comedy sideshow in between. Uzvaddan Bhorlem at the
Kala Academy Tiatr Competition written by Cyril
Almeida and directed by one Dr. Kiran Kerkar had the
above as was expected anyways.
However, imagine, where all these three elements were
no doubt original in nature, the comedy was supported
by topics like the garbage issue and other social
topics like the one about these rumours of certain
people injecting innocent others with a syringe full
of the AIDS serum and others. These topics were
cleverly dealt with showcasing the naturalist manner
displayed buy the characters that comprised of a cop,
an old minister, a goon called XYZ and a citizen
played by Michael DSouza, Piedade Sequeira, Jose
Mario Fernandes and Peter DCosta. A well said expose
of the current situation showed the opinions of each
of these characters with respect to each of these
issues having, for example, a scene in which a man
gets beaten by the people who mistake the pointed
thorn of a prawn in his plastic shopping bag to be a
syringe.
The main play on the other hand spoke of this
difficult predicament between performing ones duty as
against the obligation of a KA Tiatr Contest police
officer towards his friend. No doubt, the honest
officer upholds his duty above all even to the extent
of the mafia cutting off his two hands.
Even when his friend turned villain (due to lifes
twists and turns) comes back to bail him out of a
financial crisis, this handicap officer still looks at
him as a criminal. The last scene nevertheless reveals
his inevitable verdict when even his higher-up refuses
to place the good bad guy under arrest for want of
the formalities of evidence against the accused that
remains non-existent due to the high reach of this
criminal.
The honest officer then breaks down from his high of
duty to reach this climax at the end, there were also
songs belted out by the amateurs with the kids taking
away the cake all the way as usual with this audience
at the Academy.
Special mention needs to be made about this child
artist, Alina, who if called promising would
definitely be an understatement. So with the lights by
Prashant Naik, the set by Siddesh Divaker, the
costumes by Lucy Almeida, the make-up by Jose Mario
Fernandes, the band by Phillip Piexote and the
background music by Shrikant Gaude, this two and a
half hour play did find its mark with the crowd at the
end of this second day at the competition.
