Dears, The Botanical Society of Goa is proud to associate itself with this Citizens' Movement to save our Natural Heritage. We have to stop this needless cutting of trees for temporary benefits like IFFI.
Just because there were no objections to the cutting of the three Rain Trees left behind in the middle of the broadened D.B.Bandodkar road by the Parrikar regime, as if to thumb its nose at the environmental groups with a "Protest and be damned, do not protest and be doubly damned" challenge, there is no reason for the Rane regime and the Monserrate-controlled CCP to believe that they can get away with wanton murder on the streets of Panaji. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THE MESSAGE HAS TO GO OUT LOUD AND CLEAR. Viva Goa. Miguel Braganza Human chain to save Campal trees BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, OCT 13 – Up-in-arms over the government plans to put more trees at Campal on the chopping block, nature lovers, environmentalists and other citizens groups will gather around the trees on October 14 at 10 am to stop the government authorities from going ahead with their plans. A few days ago, the government authorities cut down three trees from the Kala Academy campus apparently to make room for erecting a huge pandal for International Film Festival of India (IFFI), agitating the minds of nature lovers. Angered by the plan — which was highlighted by the Herald few days ago — now environmental, citizens and civic groups like PMCA, Nisarg, Goa People’s Forum, ECO, Goa Foundation, etc will gather near Pehli Manzil-Forever Living showroom at Campal to save the 2-3 trees on October 14 at 10 am. _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list Goanet@lists.goanet.org http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
