The Konkani words for grandmother are xamai and aaji.
It is fun to keep track of examples that illustrate
the richness of our Konkani language. I have pointed
out some such examples in this forum over the years.
Here is another example.
I do not know who my great great great grandmother was
but there is one expressive morpheme in Konkani to
refer to her. In Konkani there are unique words for
grandmother, great grandmother, great great
grandmother and great great great grandmother. These
words are aaji or xamai, ponnji, xennji and
khaaparponnji, respectively.
