Dear Dr. Carmo,

I think we have to find the explanation of the "disproportionate" number of
Bardezkar bishops in the large emigration of the Bardezkars, dating back to
the 19th century, as opposed to that of Sashtikars, who by and large
followed them practically only in the second half of the 20th century.

Please note that 28 of our 34 Bardezkars were "grandmothered" by Goa,
whereas their counterparts from Salcete are only three, out of 11. Your
connecting "the nature of the Jesuits" with this reality is rather
audacious, I must say. Salcete, on its part, remains a more fertile ground
for priestly vocations in the Goa of today for the sheer mathematical
consideration that "sixty villages" are more than "twelve villages." And
yes, if there is any vocation promotion anywhere in the Church, it is for
plain priesthood like mine - never for mitres and red hats.

Fr. Loiola.

Dear Fr. Joaquim Loyola Pereira,

Thanks for providing me with the following statistical information:

Of the 55 bishops that Goa has mothered (or grand-mothered) right from 1637,
34 are from Bardez, 11 from Salcete and 10 from Ilhas.
