Hi Tony
For someone presenting himself (below) as a freelance writer and author, I am genuinly amazed, through the question you pose, at your lack of awareness that, there is absolutely no grammatical error in the usage of "St. Xavier's College." Such usage does not imply as per your assumption---the "possesive (sic)case." Most people would know that St Xavier never owned a school/college without you having to tell us so!

What it implies and ever so obviously, is that an association with the saint's name is used for the school/college. Likewise, across the world, there are many thousands of names of saints for streets, buildings, churches, schools, colleges and even fashion stores!

In sum, the name is not used as a possessive case but historically, as an associative one!

Subject: [Goanet] St Xavier's College?
More info:
The late St Xavier certainly does not own a college nor does the late St Anthony own a school. So I am sure the possesive case St Xavier's is plainly wrong -- grammatically speaking.:>)
