However, I will not begrudge people who genuinely believe in such miracles. Belief in concept or reality, whether in religion or anything else is a strange 'creature' that we still understand little about. However, I draw the line when gullible people are exploited, particularly financially, over miracle cures. I find the modern day evangelical churches in America particularly disgusting in the way individuals make fortunes 'selling God' and to which Selma, among others, had alluded earlier. I have also found it most obnoxious when the odd Catholic on Goanet has been vehemently critical of Hindu beliefs and demands the right to have beef to eat, and also pork etc without a thought that at times, it would be better to be sensitive to other people's beliefs/practices. Among other places, I have been to Lourdes and to Fatima to observe for myself what goes on there. As a sceptic, I was not persuaded by the intensity of the belief and devotion there but I would never demean those who believed and did not share my views. In time, I believe that religious belief (including belief in miracles) will decline significantly due to the advances of science, consumerism (huge shopping malls are sometimes viewed as the modern day cathedrals to Mammon), and the inroads of secularism, but as belief is a strange idea it may take a little while yet for miracles to gradually 'disappear' from our consciousness and vocabulary.
