"You will get all information about a vehicle at a click of a button. Just type vehicle number and you get to know who owns it, its tax situation and other details," Transport Minister Pandurang Madkaikar told reporters after the launch. Citing security and legal reasons, the website, however, has withheld detailed address of owners and chassis and engine numbers. "Currently, Panaji and Margao city vehicles are listed and in few more days all the six lakh-odd vehicles of the state will be listed," Madkaikar said. The website also lists minor details like pollution certificate expiry date, tax position, accidental history besides other details, which can be helpful for the secondhand buyer. It, however, does not provide any respite to the police as they will still have to apply to the department for more details like owners' address. "In case of police, we have inter-departmental access through which data can be gathered," State Transport Secretary Rajiv Yaduvanshi stated. In yet another step towards transparency, the department, much condemned for corruption and anti-public approach, will install touch screen kiosks in their offices. "The kiosk will help public get information about their vehicles even without going on website," Transport Director Mihir Vardhan stated. Talking to reporters, Madkaikar admitted that the department was condemned for corruption. "These steps will help reduce allegations. We are becoming more transparent," he said. The department has also linked all 26 pollution checking centres in the state to the server so that the website can be regularly updated. --- PTI ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **** WWW.GOANET.ORG ** C O M M U N I T Y ** A N N O U N C E M E N T **** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Save Goa Campaign / Goa Bachao Abhiyan Report all violations of Hill-cutting, Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and other Land Use violations to 24-hour Helpline +91 9822684372 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
