RESPONSE: Two weeks ago I tried to list Manohar Parrikar's drawbacks and achievements and encouraged others to add to the list and create lists of other twisted Goan politicians. Those that responded were just "plants" and had nothing concrete to say. Cajetan Rego (Tivim) tried to add to that list with a gimpy justification of Parrikar's act to cancel the official holiday on Good Friday. Appears he was the only one 'fooled' by that act. Appears G. Almedia has added to the single item list (IFFI) of accomplishments by mentioning the Cyberage scheme. The same scheme that is allowing Gllenda Viegas (by her own admission) to criticize the clergy in Goa. I now recollect Mr. Parrikar's reluctance to apply the law fairly - one case that comes to mind is the vandalism in Fontainhas wherein the perpetrators were known. In another situation, Mr. Parrikar was reluctant to prosecute Rane Jr, who abused his privileges as the head of Goa Tourism Development Corp, and spent over Rs 30 lakhs, even while the corporation was incurring huge operational losses. He amassed phone bills alone worth Rs. 4 lakhs of rupees. All Mr. Parrikar did was to dismiss Rane Jr. in the summer of 2002 without making any effort to recover the monies that were defrauded from the Goan exchequer - money that belonged to the people of Goa. Look the other way was his motto, to save his seat of power. He had no choice, since Rane Sr. was the speaker of the house and sat on the disqualification petitions filed by Wilfred de Souza against the 4 ministers in the Parrikar cabinet. BJP - Gandhian Socialism ?? The descendants of those that eliminated the Mahatma? BJP - Positive Secularism?? The same folk that engineered the desecration and destruction of the Babri Masjid? BJP - Value-based politics?? The same folk who seized power through the back door and held a scythe over the heads of diametric politicians? Carmo has been crying himself hoarse beckoning Mr. Parrikar to float his own party. His only criteria is that Mr. Parrikar is "Clean, Non-Corrupt". Yah right!! Clean, Non-corrupt!!
