This month's Goanet operations sponsored by Mrs. Daisy Faleiro ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jason, Well there are many Muslims who have donned India colors - the most prominent of whom is Aslam Sher Khan of Indian Airlines and Bhopal, He parlayed his success in Hockey (He played a key role in India winning the 1975 World Cup) to become an MLA and is a leading politician in Delhi. We have had other Muslim players mainly from the Bhopal, MP, UP area - including captain and left winger Zaffar Iqbal and left inner and ace dribbler Mohammed Shahid in the late 70s. Although we do not have Goan Hindus playing hockey for the nation (They waste too much time playing cricket I guess), our victorious IIT Kharagpur team captain in the late 70s was a Goan Hindu Prashant Sanzgiri (He played most of his hockey in Bombay though), Incidently that team also had a Calcutta-based Cochin Jew Benjamin Abraham. Jason you should keep in mind that one of India's leading cricketers of the 60s and 70s Dileep Sardessai is a Goan ! Why no Muslims? or Jews? Honestly man.... beats me.... There must be some explanation. If we cant find one, lets blame it on something or someone! Think about this for a change... How many Goans have represented the Indian cricket team? As far as i know, Rahul Keni and Saurabh Bandekar have played for the India U-19s... Why no Christians? Chill and cheers Jason Aristo wrote: Hi Jason & Carmo, Just curious, why only Christian names. Are there no "-kars" or other 'typical' Goan Hindu names that feature in Goan Hockey achievements?
