http://www.goa-world.com/expressions/valentines/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Following article from oHERALDo http://oheraldo.in/node/22184 Please explain What does Manohar Parrikar mean when he states that "if good Catho lic personalities come forward they would be considered for a ticket in Salcette''. Could he be kind enough to explain as to what a good Catholic is. Or perhaps his impression of a good catholic is something like the drunk and goonda Anthony from Manmohan Desai's Amar Akbar Anthony or Don Corleone from Mario Puzo's Godfather or perhaps something like Shah Rukh Khan who cheats in exams in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. Or perhaps his statement is based on Francis 'Babush' D'Souza who goes around vandalizing hotels. No doubt, Manohar bab, everyone in the state of Goa agrees whole-heartedly with you that they want a secular Goa where all communities live in perfect harmony. But here is the catch word that, sadly others do not say, but from Manohar bab have to be taken with a tinge of suspicion "I will love to rule Goa that belongs to everyone — Hindus, Christians, Muslims residing in the State." Followed by "I will not like to rule Goa as Hindu Goa." Mr Parrikar, Goa is Goa and belongs to all communities and please let us not forget one thing "which was the party that divided Goa on communal lines.'' Which was the party that launched the VCD, which lambasted the good Catholics and made fun of the religion. And for that matter how your own coterie of friends, namely the Velingkars, tried to stir up communal trouble at Bambolim. What was disgusting was the fact that the person who owned the tulsi at the spot openly admitted he was living in total harmony with his Catholic brethren, till the RSS comedians came on the scene. And then there was the Sanguem riots where some of your party cadre openly instigated and inflamed the crowds. And then there was Assagao, at the launch of the children's park, where the ex-honourable Siolim MLA openly insulted the minority community. Mr Parrikar a person is judged by the company he keeps. The good Catholics of Goa have openly admitted and praised you, and only you, for your managerial and administrative skills. People have openly spoken of your hands on approach but sadly all this has been hampered by the coterie around you. Yes, it is the company that surrounds you and who you have to report to that causes people to withdraw, including members of other communities. And if a leopard cannot change its spots, then similarly members of a certain community cannot change their attitude. Because once bitten is twice times shy. And that is what makes good citizens they do not make the same mistake again. -- DEV BOREM KORUM. Gabe Menezes. London, England
