Sixteen personalities chosen for cultural award (see comments below)

PANJIM, FEB 13 - Sixteen personalities have been chosen by the State government
for the State
Cultural Award in recognition of their contribution to art and culture.
The awardees include noted Jesuit writer Fr Moreno de Souza (literature),
Sudhakar Shivram
Karandikar (music), Antonio Moraes (music), Fr Peter Cardozo (music), Nirmala
Pai Kakode
(music), Vishnu Ramnath Lotlikar (drama), Antonio Francisco Fernandes alias
Tony Sax (tiatr),
Mahableshwar Redkar (literature), Mahableshwar Sail (literature), Kamlakar
Mhalsi (folk art),
Messias Tavares (folk art), Sadguru Chendvankar (painting), Abdul Hamid Farooqi
(painting),
Mahableshwar Shivram Divkar (craft), Narayan V Barve (Kirtan) and Vaman R Naik
Gavnekar
(bhajan).
The awardees will be presented with a certificate, shrifal, a Natraj replica, a
shawl and cash
of Rs 20,000, at a function on February 16 at Ana Fonte garden, Margao, at 6
pm. Chief
Minister Pratapsing Rane and Art and Culture Minister Digambar Kamat will
attend the function
and honour the awardees.
Meanwhile, the State government also proposes to honour eminent Goan
personalities who have
achieved excellence and who have won awards at the national and international
levels.

Additional info:
To be entitled for this award, the artistes must have attained the age of 55
years.
The award automatically become eligible for pension of Rs.1600/month.
16 artistes are chosen every years in the field of music/drama/Tiatr/Folk art/
Bhajan/Kirtan/
Craft/ Literature/ Painting

When it says Bhajan/Kirtan, I was wondering if our Christian Ladin/Ladaiha
(Litany) singers
are also entitle to the above award. There are some fine singers at every
village level (I
suppose) who could sing in both Latin and Konkani like Laudate, Kirie elison,
Salve Ragina,
Alma redemptoris, stabat Mater, Cor Jesu, Corasao Santo etc
I suppose, there are not many left now, it would be nice if they are also
honoured.
This would encourage our youngsters too.
