Though flawed on more than one count, most of the letters do manage to get the messages across. Some of them ceaselessly rant and rave on Bush's alleged unbridled hunger for agression on Muslim nations, others try and educate the readers on matters seemingly esoteric (and mundane). Then there are a few who have perfected the art of usurping this space and turning it into a turf to settle personal scores. The champion of this league is (yes you've guessed it right), the indefatigable man with a gender bending name. The person, it appears, revels in spewing venom on a particular community and never misses to highlight his 'robust contribution' to liberate the country from the cudgels of late Saddam's army. The assumptions on motive(s) of this person are myriad and mind-boggling. The grapewine has it that it is born out of a grudge from an incident involving his immediate family member while another school of thought link it a 'citizenship aspiration'. This fixation has obviously got on the nerves of some readers, who, stretched to thier limits, started sending their retaliatory missives hauling him over the coals for his allegedly inflammatory anti-community and self-praising stance. Undaunted, the man at the centre of the 'war of letters' shows no sign of calling it quits nor does his legion of critics. So the spat...errrr... the show goes on and watch that space for ever changing battle scape. Happy reading anyway. (Tongues Wag) - A regular weekend column in the Arab Times (Kuwait) on Page 24.
