The Kuwait-Goa Tiatristanchi Sonvstha (KGTS) mega event is an annual feature in the calendar of Konkani tiatrs and musicals. This year KGTS celebrates its official fifth anniversary on March 22nd, 2007 and this grand celebration culminated into its eagerly awaited mega musical show Konknni Machiechi Itihas (History of the Konkani Stage). The KGTS committee and their galaxy of sparkling cream of talented artistes/members leave no stone unturned to make every years presentation a treasured and memorable one. The hard work, efforts and sacrifices exerted by the members is tremendous and every Goan applauds them for their teamwork and dedication. Such groups as well as the events are very rare in Kuwait and KGTS are complimented for the lovely performances they put up with the visiting senior musicians and artistes. It was the versatile senior singer Ulhas Buyao who mesmerized the audience in his own unique style of singing. It may be recalled that he has taken Konkani to new heights and still strongly struggles for recognition of the Romi (Latin) script Konkani at par with the official status given to the state language of Goa. He performed in Kuwait for the first time. The energy charged Ulhas Buyao kept the audience spell bound to their seats when he performed some of his memorable songs including the immortal Chaneachea Rati (Skylit Night) and Deva Mhojea Deva (Oh God, My God). Many among the audience who heard his enchanting songs on All India Radio - Panjim station saw him perform live on stage for the very first time. Personally, since childhood, I have listened to his melodious and moral songs, and cherished them to-date and it is due to the KGTS, my dream of witnessing Ulhas Buyao perform live was fulfilled. People change but their love for their motherland cannot be hindered. His songs evoked the true spirit of love that dwells in the true sons of the soil GOA. He was honored on stage with a Memento and a shawl. Another stalwart Seby F. whose songs like Mira, Mira transport you to the land of true lovers! With a voice as fresh as spring dew giving hope beyond hope and a soothing balm to grieving hearts, Seby electrified the audiences with a power packed performance. "Ago Cheddva" was a refreshing journey to 1980s and "Carnival" left the audiences hungry for more from this bubbly singer. Thanks to KGTS for the noble cause of recognition for those tiatrists (dramatists) and musicians back home in Goa, Mumbai or Mangalore - who have contributed immensely to the Tiatrists fraternity for decades. At this years event, 12 reputed stage artistes and musicians were flown specially from India to perform for the show, courtesy of Victor Fernandes of Metro Express. KGTS is the only organization that strives to create awareness of the yesteryears artistes whose contribution to the Konkani stage has not received recognition and appreciation even from the Goa government. The entertainment filled evening saw real memorable performances from all visiting artistes. Their impeccable style and flawless dialogue delivery were left the audience spellbound to the end. The King of Centuries Roseferns who has penned, directed and staged more than 50 non-stop dramas, Tragedy King Mario Menezes, Rosy Alvares and Comedians Joana, Ambe, Sally and John DSilva with Sidhanath Buyao put up a great show. Rosy Alvares' performance as a child suffering from Down syndrome was mind blowing and commendable. Since school days, I saw Rosy Alvares perform in school dramas at Monte de Guirim. She has truly matured in the art of acting and has conquered all contours of character acting. Given any role, she can mould well and deliver the desired act with her bold performance. Two outstanding musicians Babush Fernandes and Filipe de Sanvordem among the visiting artistes were honored at the glittering event and instated as the beneficiaries of KGTS Mega Show 2007 receiving Memento, shawl and cash award for their glorious contribution towards the art of the tiatr. Yesteryears stars of the Konkani stage Aninha Dias (Anita), Patrick de Verna, Antonette Mendes, Ophelia Cabral and Remmie Colaco were the KGTS beneficiaries for the year 2006. KGTS also sponsored publishing a Konkani book Konknni Oparincho Jhelo of Brazinho Soares The lighting by SPA Santana Piedade Afonso, stage setting by Menino de Ribandar and Socorro De Melos chosen musicians Domnic Savio, Faustinho Menezes, Philip Gracias, Frederico de Melo and Philip Menezes received thunderous applause. Goas famous playback singer Adolf Fernandes was a surprise addition to the cast who rendered his voice for the opening of the mega musical depicting the history of the Konkani stage. The Kuwait-based artistes performances were commendable including those newly joined in the KGTS fold - Francis de Tuem and Jenny DSouza. KGTS members strive to project something novel in their presentation the stage setting, the sound system, lights and the gallery potraying the tiatr publicity leaflets a unique concept of perpetualizing the memories of yesteryear tiatr and tiatrists. One can only wait and watch, what KGTS will roll-up in their future mega events. A carnival presentation including King Momo and his entourage brought the curtains down to a glitzy function announcing the season of festivities and fun. KGTS enjoys a wide patronage and the list of over 200 Goans and prominent commercial entities sponsoring and advertising in KGTS annual souvenir is noteworthy. The local press and internet media support especially Gulf-Goans e-Newsletter is unparalleled for any Goan event for all the past four annual events. Just a couple of days earlier, KGTS achieved a new milestone in organizing the first Konkani Tiatr Workshop headed by stalwart of Konkani Tiatr Roseferns. The education oriented workshop highlighted and deliberated on the basic aspects of script writing, direction, rehearsal, music, songs, cantos, background music, stage setting, lights, backstage requirements, costume, make-up, and others. KGTS members enacted two skits as models for understanding the fundamentals, salient features of every aspect and later put up for discussion in the question-answer session coordinated by Jose Rod and Gracy Morais. The event patronized by Albano Pinto and Family had its motto as Making better artistes and audiences. This workshop served as a platform for bridging the gap between the artistes and audiences and provided an opportunity for the Tiatrist fraternity to understand the audiences better. While retaining the current segment of audience, tapping new talent, fresh ideas, innovative scripts, training and education in theatre was need of the hour to save and maintain this cultural heritage. As Katty de Navelim, KGTS presidents message in their Souvenir reads: KGTS is proud about its achievements of crossing boundaries and achieving milestones promoting Konkani tiatr, its rich Goan culture, heritage and Konkani language, it only remains to been seen if the Goan Clubs and Associations based in India, Kuwait and Gulf Regions, and globally would pitch in, in support of KGTS in its march ahead to promote Konkani Tiatr and Konkani Tiatrists.
